To include options to allow the host to generate revenue which could be used to offset the costs of hosting the server. Possible options like advertising, subscription service. This option will make it lucrative to host a server and thus promote multiple distributed instances to increase decentralization.

Any podmin can already customise their pod in whatever way they choose. I don’t think it would be right to include advertising functionality into the core code base.
But obviously the maintainer of the POD needs to be able to offset the cost of hosting the instance isn’t it. Not like you would do something for someone for free. And getting people to explicitly pay for a service is the hardest thing to do.
I disagree. I run a pod for free. I don’t want to see advertising on D*. I don’t want D* to turn into a shitty version of Facebook. I will disconnect any pod that has advertising from federating to my pod.
As a user I’m totally against advertising. However, I would pay a regular share if donations are fluctuating heavily and I have a documentation of the costs. Podmins shouldn’t make a living of it but I would grant them a pizza or two.
