Unless you have a very good reason for making changes now, I’d not do them. All UI changes annoy users, even if things just “look slightly different”. If we want to build a new frontend, then I’m all for it, but that shouldn’t happen with changes that trickle down over multiple months, with every release changing something else. Having a non-stop stream of sudden isolated random changes is a good way to ensure users are maximally confused and annoyed. That’s bad in general, but even worse for us, since diaspora* has earned itself a reputation for having a stable UX.
