Where to join in on API development?

Hello Diaspora’ers (sp?). I’d like to help out with coding and looking around noticed that there’s a lot of mention of an API being under construction, but nowhere specific with information about progress or how to help out. Can someone point me in the right direction?

I have some experience building API’s (just finished writing a RoR REST API for a new product at work in fact) and would love to help out with this important feature. I think it’ll really springboard Diaspora’s development… plus I really want to use it :).

Can someone point me to who’s spearheading the project?
