Can I conect with Mastodon, Friendica, and others in the fediverse? And if so, is it automatic or requires configuring, or does it depend upon a Pod and if so, how do I know which Pod/s?
I have a Friendica account, but I like Diaspora UI better.

Yes, if the Friendica node has the diaspora* protocol support enabled.
“Fediverse” is a surprisingly meaningless term because it doesn’t accurately describe anything. If you’re asking if diaspora* talks to applications talking ActivityPub, the answer is no.

sounds like stay with Friendica to get all of them then.

There are other projects that implement multiple protocols. the-federation.org has an incomplete list. Give a couple of projects a try and use whatever fits you the best!

I have tried Friendica, Mastodon, and Hubzilla and I have found that the first two are loaded with features I (and perhaps most people) wouldn’t use anyway. Diaspora’s greatest feature in my opinion is the simplicity of it’s user interface. No steep learning curve and not slowed down by all sorts of features and gadgets I wouldn’t have any interest in.That’s why I stick with what works for me.
