I was very saddened to read that the XMPP-chat feature was taken out of the project totally:

So there is no way at all to integrate an XMPP chat into the Diaspora UI even five years after this post?
What about future plans on making a chat function in the Diaspora system?

The post you linked explains exactly why the chat was removed. It also very clearly states that we have no intentions of adding a XMPP-based chat ever again. That’s unlikely to change.
If you have specific questions in relation to that announcement from 2019, then please post in that thread.
