I have just installed diaspora and started my own pod. What is the main difference between development and production environment running locally?

The names are self-explanatory I guess but development is a mode to run diaspora* locally on your computer. Production is the mode you have to pick when you installed diaspora* on a server, reachable on the internet 24h / 24.
